The Most Outrageous Thing You Could Do Right Now

adventure goals mindset Sep 20, 2016

This summer, I played the role of the women’s rights activist Gloria Steinem, when she interviewed Hugh Hefner in the 1970s. While I was studying her for the role, I came across something she said that changed the way I think about my own life and work.

She was promoting her book Outrageous Acts and Everyday Rebellions, and Someone asked her about the title. Initially, she joked “It’s too long, don’t you think?”

“Not necessarily,” he said. “I’m just curious what it’s about.”

“Well,” she said, “A movement is really just people moving. In order to create a movement, you have to have people consistently moving toward what you want to achieve.”

She explained that whenever she gave a speech, she worried that the energy would stop when she stepped down from the podium. Her feeling was, “Okay, maybe I inspired people, maybe I’ve informed them about something they didn’t know. But if they don’t go out and do something, then what I said doesn’t matter. It’s not a movement if it’s just me talking.”

So, she decided to lay down the gauntlet.

At the end of each speech, she challenged everyone in the room to do one outrageous act in the next 24 hours. One outrageous thing that would move this purpose of creating equal women’s rights forward.

She challenged people to do something big, something bold, something that would make a difference.

I’d love to include that concept of outrageous acts, in our movement toward achieving your dreams. Toward creating and living that happy, successful, fulfilling life.

What’s one outrageous act that you can take in the next 24 hours?

Really – what is it?

Think of one thing right now, and I challenge you to go out and do it.

And then – don’t just stop there – film it, write about it, take a picture of yourself doing it.

Post it to Twitter with the hashtag #OneOutrageousAct. Because we want to highlight you, and how you’re creating a movement in your life.

Like Gloria said: if you want to create a movement, you’ve got to keep moving.

Now, she meant that in terms of taking action to create widespread change. I mean it that way too, but I also mean it literally, as in moving your body. If your body is moving, your brain is active and alive, and you’re keeping your whole self energized, flexible, and motivated. It’s impossible to stay creative, happy, and healthy without moving. And that’s what Moticise is all about – moving your body, and creating a movement in your life.

So I pass Gloria’s challenge on to you. What is one outrageous act that will send you soaring into your dream life?

Now go out and shine.
