​What Would You Do If You Couldn’t Fail?

It’s a big question – maybe not one you’ve asked yourself before. So often, we’re programmed to think of difficulty and negativity first. The more we think that way, the more it becomes our mindset.

That’s why a question like this one can be so striking. It comes from a place of possibility, strength, openness. It can help you see the possibilities through a clean lens, without fear and doubt dirtying your vision.

I’ll never forget the afternoon I sat in my living room in New Jersey, the day before I drove across the country to Hollywood. More than anything, I wanted to act, to be a star—yet it was such a big risk. I was scared.

Then I asked myself, what if I couldn’t fail?

For me, that opened up a whole new perspective. I had to try.

I thought of it again when I left a secure acting gig on the soaps to try my hand at life coaching and motivational speaking. It was another risk, another step into the unknown—but I did it. And then again, when I started my business, Moticise – motivational exercise.

In fact, questions like that one are so valuable to me that I created my whole business around them. Moticise is a fitness program that combines physical exercises with mindset tools, in order to help you identify your goals and really go for what you want—all while getting in shape.

What would you do if you couldn’t fail?

Stand up and do some squats, while letting your mind explore the question. With each one, sink deeper into the squat, and sink deeper into the question. Feel your feet planted on the ground; feel the stability in your core. Really feel it. Sink even deeper. What would you do, if you knew you wouldn’t fail?

Now, jump up and land back in a squat. What would you do if there were no limits? If there were nothing holding you back?

Jump higher. What else? Visualize those things—Where would you be? What would you accomplish?​ ​How would you feel? What else? Make it bigger! Reach higher!

Last one—jump as high as you can, and think as big as you can! What is it, for you?

Great job!

The answers are probably a lot bigger, more daring, more adventurous than you’re used to. Allow yourself to feel that change of perspective. Allow those ideas to flow. Write the good ones down.

I love exercises like this. They constantly help me think bigger, imagine more creatively, think more positively. Many steps along my journey have confronted me with difficult decisions, risks, challenges I didn’t feel equipped to face. But by facing them with a positive mindset, those challenges become surmountable. And each one has brought me closer to where I am today.

It’s so important to think big, especially when you’re setting a goal or making a big decision. So many people bring a teaspoon to the feast that is life. But not you – you want to bring a shovel!

The more you practice that mindset, the more natural it will become. Your dreams will be bigger, your life will be more exciting – if you just give it a chance.

And, by combining that mindset with physical exercises, you’re putting it into your body. You see, the brain doesn’t know the difference between what’s real and what’s imagined. When you visualize, your body and your brain respond as if you’re actually doing it. So, by visualizing WHILE physically embodying your dream life, you’re training yourself for the real thing.
